If you considered sedan, hatchback and some coups to be the most popular body types of the car, well you may be right, but it is not so interesting to compare sedans as there are far too many. Therefore today we decided to get you something new – the wagon type. Something similar with the family car and a relatively big car. The fight today will be between 2012 Toyota Matrix and Mazda3, also 2012.

Both cars are relatively affordable, as asking for about $20,000 for a new model is now something quite acceptable and understandable by the majority of the new car buyers. Toyota seems to get some hard punches from Mazda in terms of the engine it got – 1.8L 132hp I4 will for sure be beaten by the Mazda’s 2.0L 155hp I4. The difference in 23 ponies will make it deal on the road. Therefore the torque that Toyota provides is also somewhat similar – 128 @ 4400 RPM, while Mazda gets you 148 @ 4100 RPM. Both car got the front-wheel drive and will get you going far with high fuel economy. But Mazda can greatly surprise you on this also. It goes for 28 mpg in the city and 39 on the highway, while Toyota can provide 25 and 32 respectively.
So Mazda get’s the fight this time!
