Five years ago we couldn’t even think about comparing these two cars, but after the appearing of the sixth generation of Hyundai Sonata everyone understood that Hyundai carmaker is serious about creating high-performance qualitative cars that consumers wanted. So today 2014 Hyundai Sonata will rival recently redesigned 2014 Honda Accord, a permanent best-seller mid-size sedan in the auto market.

The power of both cars is coming from 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines developing 185 HP. And both cars have the same size 215/55R17 tires. The only thing that differs is the transmission. Hyundai still prefer a six-speed automatic transmission for all Sonata models. Honda replaced a multi-gear transmission with a continuously variable (CVT) which is really smooth and flawless. Both transmissions are good enough in work, but the 2015 Hyundai Sonata fuel consumption is worth – 9,0l/100km comparing to 2014 Honda Accord – 7,9l/100km. The Accord is easier to drive, it is more predictable and manageable. The Hyundai Sonata’s ride quality is improved but still a little bit rough for daily driving.

Honda Accord has more space for rear passengers, but it misses some features that Sonata has: a heated steering wheel, heated and cooled front buckets, a panoramic sunroof and a bigger trunk. So, as you see, the differences between two sedans are very small, so it is up to customers to choose which model is better, but we think that for almost equal price (about 30 000 dollars) the choice is Honda Accord.
